Final Project Proposal
The conceptual basis of my work for this final project will
be taking simplicity and turning it into chaos. In order to represent this, I
will be taking a simple to-the-point photo, and creating two prints. After that
point, I will cut the photos in a way that allows me to place them in overlap
with each other to show the simple photo in a different chaotic light. The
artist that somewhat inspired me to do this was Julie Cockburn - she
manipulates portraits in ways that represent many meanings. This project will
be a challenge because I’d like to recreate this idea from a variety of simple
photographs, and figure out the best way to overlap the photos. My final vision
is to have the photos printed as 8.5X11s and on luster paper.

Project Proposal (Time/Movement)
For my time/movement project I've come up with a series of photographs.
- a ring that is very sentimental to me spinning in a circle
- Two photos combined of a puzzle finished vs. unfinished
- Rain splashing off a deck railing
- I'll have my friends spinning glowsticks
- My roommate "Day and Night" - showing the transformation of innocence to adulthood
- two photos combined to represent an abusive relationship (using makeup)

Chapter 9 Notes (Conceptual Art ~ Tony Godfrey)
Chapter 9 Notes – Looking at Others
- - Mel Bochner cared more about how we use photography to conceptualize our lives
- - More about analysis than the medium
- - How the photographs are used to make meanings
- - ‘The photograph is a lie’ ~ Carl Andre
- - Art is meant to be a direct experience
- - Has to be looked at from many perspectives
- - Huebler saw that people get self-conscious when looking into a camera but this can be helped by telling them they’re beautiful
- - Camera can be used as a ‘duplicating devise’
- - Different versions of reality
- - The title/text can relate an image to a particular reading
- - Thinking can be more crucial than the photograph
- - Both a critique of representation and a critique of vision
- - Colour – for holiday snapshots while black/white – art photography
- - ‘Narrative art’ – expresses emotions and sets off thinking
- - Advertising – shows myths and ideology of our society
- - Desire = a sense of lacking
- - Consciousness = the space we create around ourselves
- - Photography relates to the unreal of realism
